Auf einer gemeinsamen Fahrradreise die Donau entlang übernachteten Philine Kuhn und ich im Zelt auf einer Verkehrsinsel in Ruse, Bulgarien. Am nächsten Morgen entdeckten wir, dass noch eine andere Person sich die kleine Grünfläche in der Stadt zum Rückzugsort gewählt hatte. Nicht weit von unserem Zelt fanden wir ein Matratzenlager mit Erotikmagazinen und Unterwäsche. Obwohl wir niemanden antrafen, war klar, dass das Versteck oft besucht wird.
Wir erkundeten diesen Ort der Intimität inmitten von Öffentlichkeit. Es entstanden Fotografien, die der Frage nachgehen, wo man existenzielle Bedürfnisse wie Schlaf, Erholung oder Sexualität befriedigt, wenn dafür kein privater Rückzugsraum zur Verfügung steht. Aus den Bildern des Ortes entstand ein dokumentarisches Schmuddelheft.
Diese Erfahrung war Ausgangspunkt für das Projekt REST IN PEACE, welches wir ein Jahr später realisierten.

Traffic Island // 2013 / Zine with photogaphs of a hidden place / A5, 20 pages/ digital print / in collaboration with Philine Kuhn

On a bicycle trip along the Danube, Philine Kuhn and I spent the nights camping together in the wild. Once we put up our tent on a traffic island in Ruse, Bulgaria.
The following morning, we discovered that another person had chosen the small green space in the city as a retreat as well. Not far from our tent, we found a camp with erotic magazines and underwear. Although we did not meet anyone, it was obvoius that the hiding place was often frequented.
We felt touched by this site of intimacy in the midst of publicity. During our trip on a small budget, we had to deal with the question of where to satisfy existential needs as well.

From pictures of the place we developed a documentary magazine to raise the questions where to go to to toilet, find sleep, or satisfy sexual needs if there is no private space for retreat?
This experience was the starting point for the project REST IN PEACE, which we realised one year later.
